Heat Streak

LeBron & D-Wade

It started with LeBron James’ offensive streak of 30+ points and 60% shooting at the start of the year, now the whole Miami Heat team have caught fire.

With a 23 game unbeaten run, surpassing the second placed 07-08 Houston Rockets’ 22 game win streak, this has become more than just a streak suddenly we are on the brink of NBA history. Miami Heat are within touching distance of NBA record holders Los Angeles Lakers’ 33-game win streak, well theoretically. If you look at the Heat’s next eleven games it almost seems possible.

El Heat’s Florida state rivals, Orlando Magic, are the sole team to have run them to a single point game in this 23 win streak. At game 16 of the run it took a last second left-handed LeBron James layup to avert a shock ousting for a hard earned win. Most of the other victories have been by double-digit margins.

During this streak the defending champs have faced challenges from Eastern Conference rivals Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks and of course yesterday against arch-nemesis the Boston Celtics. Even Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City have succumbed to this freight train.

We’ve seen some big NBA partnerships in the past; Magic & Kareem, Jordan & Pippen, even Kobe & Shaq. My personal favourite was the guard duo of Joe Dumars & Isiah Thomas who led the Detroit Pistons to back-to-back Championships but it seems the Heat’s dynamic duo have a point to prove to all of those guys.

All of a sudden they have the best record in the NBA and don’t look like stopping any time soon on their championship march. Is it possible that game 30 on the 31st of this month against a Tony Parker-less San Antonio Spurs can see defeat the streaking Heat or will they be stopped at all before the postseason tips off?
